Mayor's Office for Children, Youth & Families
Vision
Every child has the fundamental resources to reach their highest potential, develop confidence, character, and competence to live a healthy, fulfilling life, and contribute positively to the community. Missison
Our mission is to ensure the positive development of children, youth and families by providing access to the fundamental resources needed to reach their highest potential and by utilizing public/private partnerships with government, businesses, communities of faith, civic organizations, and nonprofits to enhance the health, safety, education and human services of Charleston’s children, youth and families.
Purpose Mayor's Office for Children, Youth & Families facilitates the communication, coordination, and mobilization of resources in the community, acts as a community clearinghouse of resource information, builds public/private partnerships, strengthens and enhances community capacity, pilots new initiatives and encourages community collaboration. MOCYF functions as a service enabler, not a service provider. MOCYF’s role is to provide the infrastructure that supports service providers; identifies needs, helps create programs to meet those needs, and ensures long-term sustainability of services.
MOCYF oversees the Mayor’s Office on Aging, the Division of Youth Programs, Lowcountry’s Promise, and other national initiatives. MOCYF works with numerous commissions, committees, and task forces responsible for developing strategies and action plans to address problems and issues.
